Video Shows Gaza Flotilla Attacking Israelis

June 7th 2010

YouTube video shows members of the crew and activists on board the Turkish vessel "Mavi Marmara" repelling Israeli boarders before Israeli troops rappelled onto the ship that was attempting to take supplies to the Gaza Strip, in violation of the blockade imposed by both Israel and Egypt.

The video shows activists dropping a grenade on Israeli troops in a rubber boat that came alongside the Mavi Marmara. Boxes of plates were also thrown onto the troops, while activists on board the ship also attempted to repel the boarders with a fire hose. Ultimately, some 9 activists were killed in the affray while two Israeli soldiers were wounded - one of them was seriously wounded.

The Mavi Marmara was one of six vessels attempting to land at the Gaza Strip, ostensibly bearing humanitarian aid to the area controlled by the Hamas terrorist organization Israel has long feared that such shipments may contain weapons and war materiel. Missile attacks originating in the Gaza Strip resulted in an invasion of the area by Israel in late 2008 and early 2009. Since that time, the area has been jointly blockaded by Egypt and Israel. It was solely on board the Mavi Marmara that Israeli troops were met with such a level of violence. The video was shot by activists on the Turkish-flag vessel.
